No matter what kind of workout you are doing, whether it be a run around the block or an intense CrossFit training session, mental stamina is a very important piece of the puzzle, maybe even the most important piece. Your body can do it, but if your mind keeps telling you that it can’t, then you won’t get anywhere in your workout. So how do you overcome your self-doubt and build your mental stamina? The following list of tips will help:
- Take it one step at a time- When you look at your workout as a whole, it can all seem very overwhelming, but when you just focus on the task at hand, it will seem so much more doable! Not only will this help you to push through, but it will also help you to focus your breathing, so that you can get the most out of each and every breath that you take.
- Stay positive- Being positive and confident is a difficult skill to learn, but it is a very important one. Building your confidence will take time and persistence on your part. Every time you tell yourself something negative, correct it! Sooner or later, you won’t have to make such a conscious effort to stay positive.
- Accept your setbacks- Setbacks will happen to even the most elite athletes, but it is really how you recover from those setbacks that will determine what kind of an athlete you are. Practice techniques, like repeating a mantra to yourself, visualizing your success, etc., to help you to move on from your setback. When you have a plan in place, you will be able to give yourself the confidence boost that you need to overcome!
